..........In
August 2000,
the Millennium World Peace
Summit of Spiritual & Religious Leaders was held at the
United Nations headquarters in New York with Secretary General
Kofi Annan in attendance. This was the first time that the
spiritual and religious leaders from all around the world
had gathered to sign a declaration and stated their intention
and cooperation to create peace in this Millennium. The spiritual
and religious leaders also hoped that this gathering would
be symbolic and successful in reducing conflicts around the
world. One of the many outcomes of this gathering of religious
leaders was the formation of the International Advisory Council
of Religious and Spiritual Leaders, to be in charge of a central
organization to provide information and co-ordination for
future peacekeeping activities.
...........Another important
outcome resulting from the Millennium World Peace Summit of
Spiritual and Religious Leaders was the gathering of women
spiritual leaders, women political leaders and prominent
businesswomen, who founded The Global Peace Initiative of
Women (GPIW). The organization was launched at the Palais
des Nations in 2002 in Geneva, Switzerland. This is an international,
multi-faith network of women leaders who come together to
stimulate peace building and reconciliation efforts in areas
of conflict and post-conflict. The organization's work aims
to foster respect for all people on Earth and for the Earth's
natural environment. The organization realizes the importance
of transmitting such values to the next generation, thus,
it places special emphasis on cultivating interfaith understanding
and developing leadership in young adults around the world.

.......To cultivate the potential
of young leaders to be representatives of Thailand in attending
the Global Youth Leadership Summit in October 2006, Sathira-Dhammasathan
has held several conferences and workshops. The delegates
are leaders and potential leaders in their communities and
come from every region of Thailand. The first conference was
held during October 20-26, 2005 and the second conference
from April 3-9, 2006. The main focus during these conferences
was to introduce and later create a spiritual dimension in
the mind of the participants.
.......They learned how to work
for others and to allow themselves to work for others, which
is another way of learning how to lessen ones' ego spiritually.
Learning to become a good leader, a capable person, whom others
can work for, by taking in mind what they have learned from
working for others. Knowing the proper time and place to work,
without being told or asked , is another principle introduced.
These principles are introduced with the intention to help
the young leaders to the path of contented and sustainable
work, so that suffering will not become a part of their work,
which in turn will lead the young leaders to live a life of
tranquility and usefulness. The Conferences were also intended
to be cultivated places where the seeds of spirituality mature
and the owners learn to communicate through their inner beings
and work harmoniously together to create a dynamic and determined
ability.
........ These gatherings allowed
us to witness the tremendous potential of our young people
and served as an important forum for building a strong network
of youth leaders from all over Thailand. As a result www.sosstation.org
was formed to provide a vehicle of communication among
youth.
